LYUBOV: Why should I lie about it? I love him. He is a stone around my neck and he will, he will, take me to the bottom. But I cannot live without him.

DUNYASHA: My head is spinning, my heart...and just now the postmaster said a thing to me such that...took my breath away.
FIRS: What did he say.
DUNYASHA: He said that I was like a flower.
YASHA: Tortured comparison--
DUNYASHA: Like a flower, for I am a delicate girl -- and I love tender words.

YEPIKHODOV: Misfortune every day. Well. Then what can one do but smile?

this was a great story. I liked the way Chekhov gave a sentimental value to the cherry orchard and the estate but at the same time showing how when its time for new things to come you cant stop them. the personalities of the characters were very real and entertaining and you really felt that you almost knew these people. It started out slow (for me) but as i read on to act two the story started to sharpen up and i got into it.
