Part epistolary, part memoir, part essay, total Powell. Starting with a letter to his son about what it means to be a man and what the attitude of men toward women needs to be. Powell explores his experiences with racism, sexism, the American legal system, history, family and violence. He also discussed the roles of forgivenesses, love, justice and equality. Kevin Powell’s status as a writer, civil and human rights advocate add to his essays on their effects on politics, social and ecological issues. His work provides a thoughtful, considered opinion on today’s issues. I had not previously read anything by Kevin Powell but will look for more of his writing. Recommend to readers of books on leadership, history, family dynamics, the American legal systems, racism, and sexism.
