I finally understand why everyone considers this a dystopian novel. I thought I'd be able to handle what I'd heard was the other end of the 1984 spectrum, but the babies treatment made me absolutely sick to my stomach. I don't think I can finish this, nor do I think I want to, I generally have the picture of how it will go from here. The art is good, and it's use of switching between scenes is very good at making you feel overwhelmed.

I had not read the original text so it was interesting to experience it this way. The story is, not surprisingly, horrifying and dystopian. The artist does a great job portraying the world with its orgies and state-sanctioned drug use as well as the state’s propaganda and human engineering efforts. But it was hard for me to follow the counter narratives; I don’t know how they are in the original but they were hard to grasp here so the ending felt disjointed and hard to believe. Like most movies based on novels, this  book would probably provide a more cohesive experience for someone already familiar with the story.
