It was a really good reading. I really appreciated how the main character, Kvothe, evolved through the book. Moreover, the storystelling was pretty unique. However, I can’t give it 5 stars : this book miss two things : some twists and an interesting storyline. Maybe some people manage to be hooked to this, but I need some twists ! Hopefully, the writing was wonderful and the worldbuilding is perfect ! I heard the second book is better, so I’m sure to keep reading it.

So...once we got going, I really enjoyed the story. But this missed a few marks for me, and maybe it'll all come together in the fullness of the story, but 1) why bother with the story telling format at all? Just set it in the past 2) why is Bast introduced twice?? That was so confusing, particularly in the audiobook 3) the story just...stops?! There's no END to the book, how did Rothfuss decide it was over?? The story leading up to the end felt very scattered, like trying to tie loose ends and not caring what kind of a mess they were in.
I got the impression when I started this book that it needs to be read by eye, and I'm even more certain of that now. Better luck next time.

This is quite easily the best book I have ever read, and it has pride of place as the most prominent position in my bookcase and the one book I will recommend to absolutely anyone given half a chance.

The story is told in two main interchanging parts, from Kvothe telling his story to the scribe to third-person narrator telling what happens when he takes a break for whatever reason. And there's always a good reason. High fantasy at its finest, in a league all of its own. It's the book that inspired me to try and write myself and for that I'll be eternally grateful.
