A great war book set on a specific crusade. Many interesting characters. The ending was too open, though.

A wonderful entry into the Gaunt's Ghosts cycle. The ending is satisfying and rather abrupt, not giving any time to come down off the climax. So, what did I do? I went right to the next one. :)

Recommended for fans of war stories but I recommend starting with the first three. :)

I have it 7/10 on my personal scale.

Our first story with the newly joined Tanith and Vergast forces is action packed just as you would expect. The addition of women to the ranks is a welcome change, I love how they kick butt and hold their own in any battle.
Guant continues to run a fine line between following orders and reinterpreting them, or outright ignoring them in this case. But all's well that end's well.
