The Winter Soldier story-line really shouldn't have been split up into two volumes, as all of my concerns in my review of the first volume -- not enough Cap, not enough action, not enough resolution -- were addressed in this volume.

That being said, Captain America still doesn't even crack my top ten list of favorite superheroes. He is too one-note with the punching and shielding repeated ad nauseam -- it makes me think of the saying that when all you have is a hammer, every problem looks like a nail -- and while he has the same lawful/good disposition that makes Superman so boring, he can't even fly or shoot lasers out of his eyes. Poor Cap. Two things he does have going for him are good writing, which covers a lot of the sins of updating this outdated WWII figurehead hero to the current day, and a really interesting supporting cast, including, in this volume, Falcon. And while the first volume focused on the supporting players and basically ignored Cap, this volume had a better balance.

I probably wouldn't have continued with this series, but I bought [b:Civil War: Captain America|754123|Civil War Captain America|Ed Brubaker|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1348773863s/754123.jpg|740242] and [b:Captain America: The Death of Captain America|1680505|Captain America The Death of Captain America, Vol. 1 The Death of the Dream|Ed Brubaker|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1351512545s/1680505.jpg|2778676] in the same sale, so I will continue on to the inevitable (thanks to the subtle titling) conclusion.

Well shit.
I thought I had this all figured out between a few library services and I could read a pretty good arc. But it turns out this is not the case, so I guess I'm once again calling it quits on ol' cappy cap cap.
I don't know how this all works, but libraries should probably hire like one comics dork to do the buying, or maybe hire one to look over the purchasing plan for the year, pay them like a contractor, a hit man, except instead of killing people, they make a plan to buy the comics for the year. So nothing like a hitman at all. Just a guy with a regular job, I guess.

I'd apply for this job. It'd be great! It's like a comics dork dream. Looking at someone's collections and pointing out the flaws? This is like every comics dork's favorite activities rolled into one.

I would buy that Howard the Duck movie prop jacket I saw on eBay as a celebratory new professional attire purchase, too.

It'd just be a better world all around, for everyone.

A spectacular conclusion to a now classic run. The art and the narrative work seamlessly. There's one full-page in the final issue collected here that could be framed it's so gorgeous. Of course, the narrative here is well-known now thanks to the Winter Soldier film and the MCU at large, but revisiting this story reinvigorated me, reminding me of the power of the characters. A strong recommendation for anyone wanting to read some Captain America comics.

Such a huge fan of this run. Brubaker's a great genre writer and he handles the spy/espionage elements with aplomb. Steve Epting's art is gritty, bathed in shadows, perfectly suited for the subject matter. At the same time, he expertly hits every emotional beat, with emotionally expressive face and body language that gives the story added depth. The only thing I didn't like was how Bucky's defeat felt like hand waving. though maybe that's bound to be the case when the cosmic cube is involved.

I’m pretty sure the CA: Winter Soldier movie is loosely based off this run, and I had a really fun time reading the original source material. I really liked the issue we got on Bucky’s backstory as the Winter Soldier. I think that was my favorite part of this section in the story. Overall I really enjoyed this

Really strong story arc! I had never read much cap and generally think of him as a boring character but if this is any representation of what I've been missing then I need to get my act together
