I received this ARC from Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review!

I have southern family. It's just one of those facts of life. My maternal grandmother's family is from the south. When I talked about this book with my mom, she said that her family was always poor, but she doesn't know the history. Reading this really made me want to find out more about my history on that side. I can't remember my grandmother saying anything racist, but I never interacted with her family like that.

This book is just very interesting. It's focused around something called Coming To The Table (CTTT) which focuses on descendants of slavery -- both white and black -- coming to talk about things and, well, heal. It's very insightful because you can see the effects of slavery and how it can get debilitating for everyone. One, being a descendant of a slave. Two, being a descendant of a slaveowner. I really enjoyed reading this and seeing all of the people who are trying to make the best of the past in order to make a better tomorrow.

I'd recommend this if you want a unique read and to read something from various perspectives.
