Conflict between Israel and Palestine has been long and brutal, claiming many victims on both sides. In his memoir Marc Goldberg gives an honest and fascinating inside into his time serving as a volunteer in the IDF. Well written Beyond the Green Line is a glimpse into what life is like not only for the serving soldiers but also for the people caught up in the conflict.

Living a few kilometers from the green line myself, and being too old to join the IDF by the time I made Aliyah, I was looking forward to reading about Marc’s experiences and living vicariously while doing so.

Marc recounts his story with self deprecating humour and brutal honesty.

He brings to life the highs and lows of serving his country with glimpses not only into the conflict but the people, on both sides, that he encountered.

Grab a Turkish coffee, get comfy and spend some time with Marc as he tells his story. You won’t regret it.
