Not too much to say about this one. Nasty sex crazed blood thirsty monsters in the Wild West. A hell of a good time and a easy to read writing style.

This was an accidental reread but I'm not mad at that. This was so action packed and exciting even the second time reading it. Not been reading his books lately but will try to read or reread more sooner rather than later

Set in 1885 its both a western and a vampire horror story, what's not to like? Seems to be oddly drawn to Jonathan Janz books recently. But I don't mind it at all. The books are fun an action packed and the book is as good as the blurb promises!

ah, where do I start with this book!?! So I am kicking off the tour for another Janz tour – yup I am one spoiled blogger and I am sat here thinking how do I write this review! Do I talk about how gruesome this book was? How it was completely bat- shit crazy from the get-go? About how the “vampires” in this are not the Twilightly fancy ones but more close to the freaky deaky Fright night ones? How much I bloody loved this book – or is that just a given?

Jumping straight into the action with Cody, he has lost his wife to a horrific crime due to these Dust Devils, watching them from afar having a snack over a fire pit, and we do not need to discuss what they were actually eating, he tries to stop Willett a small boy from making the biggest mistake of his life. This act by Cody, then starts yet another catalyst for the crazy wild west as the Travelling actors hold zero bars against anyone who get in there way and especially anyone who manages to injury, mane or kill one of their own!

Dust Devils is one high octane journey in 1885 Mexico, there is zero chance of it slowing down, not until you are done with the story. Janz is not one to hide and go for a Hollywood ending for sure so there were a couple of shocks, however where his other books have been intense and creepy this was just a wild ride and at times a race against time.

It was such a belter of a book that I managed to negotiate some time with my little one to leave me some reading time and I finished it one afternoon. I did then have to play hide and seek for a while in order to get the peace but small sacrifices just to make sure Cody could survive Mr Price, the king of the travelling band of vampires.

If you come into the book with an expectation of vampires, the hot seductive lifestyle that you can have…well, this is most definitely the before picture in my head… and I warn you…this is the picture you will have in your head when they show their true form…All I will say is Fright Night is an epic film (and one of my favourites) and I wonder how much of an influence it really had.

I for one do not wish to be caught by one of these merry little men! Of course with any vampire story, you do have the seduction and the sex and this then leads us to the embarrassment of Cody as he watches his wife be seduced by this. Cody is not your typical leading man, he is deemed as weak and times a little crazy as he has constant arguments in his head with no backbone. But he is loyal to a fault and a heart of gold and to be honest if a man didn’t break down at times after experiencing what he had, I would be more afraid and looking out for my garlic!

You know when you open a book by Janz exactly what you are going get. You know there will gore, horror, sex and a lot of uncomfortable reading and Janz did not let me down here! Throw in the wild west and it was a bonus in my eyes. We have the good ole saloons, the resident Doc, men wearing Stetsons, gunfights in the street and of course a show to whet your appetite, what more do you want! I could hear the spurs clinking on the street and I could feel the dust and dirt on my face as if I was right smack bam in the middle of the action, thank the lord I was not!! To complete my journey, I just wanted to hear someone say “Howdy ma’am”

Bored. Didn’t care about what was happening. Low intrigue overall.

4.5 Stars rounded to 5 for goodreads

I’ve got to be honest here, Dust Devils is my first Jonathan Janz title. I have no basis of his other works to compare this to, but I can tell you for sure this won’t be the last. In fact, halfway through reading this I started buying more books from his back catalog. I’m late to the party, but now that I’m here I’m going to enjoy it.

Dust Devils is a western/horror mashup. It’s a tale of one mans Loss, Humiliation, and quest for revenge. Cody Wilson is a man who has struck out on his own, leaving his father behind in order to make a life with him and his Wife, despite his father’s warnings. Needless to say, life doesn’t turn out so good for Wilson. The book starts in the thick of things, Wilson already having been betrayed and left behind, on a quest for revenge where he meets Willet Black, a young boy with the same intent. From here, Janz treats us to a gory vampire tale where you’re rooting for a main character who is for lack of better words, a bit pathetic. I don’t want to get into spoilers, but Cody is most definitely not a badass hero. For the type of book we’ve got here, that could have derailed it and made it completely unbelievable for our hero to be battling these demons, but Janz clearly has the skill to make it work. The characters are written well enough that you care about the ones you should, and loathe the ones deserving of your hatred. I feel like Jonathan Janz walked a tightrope here with this novel, it could have went off the tracks at any time, but he hit it out of the park, delivering a very fun, very different vampire tale.

Dust Devils by Jonathan Janz is one hell of a fun book. It’s a western vampire tale that probably doesn’t have any right to be as good as it is. I don’t mean that in any kind of negative way, I mean that with the highest respect to the authors skills. From what I’ve read in reviews, much of Janz’s catalog is even better than this, and that makes me very excited for the books I’ve just ordered.

DNF at 129 pages. Just not for me. It's well written. I've LOVED other books by this author. I just need a little intrigue or mystery to keep me interested. This is quite literally just cowboys vs vampires, and there's no depth beyond that. Which is fine if you want an action packed shoot/bite 'em up, but it just didn't do anything for me.

This is the third book that I have read by this author, so I knew I would be in for a great tale and I wasn’t disappointed.
Cody Wilson was a man on a mission. After seeing his wife murdered by a group of travelling actors, he knew he must seek revenge. He was a man with a conscious and even though he wanted revenge, he knew what type a woman his wife was and as we follow him on this journey, his inner voice is battling with him.
We first come across Cody as he watches the actors eat their latest kill, nothing wrong with that but it wasn’t an animal. From that moment I knew I was in for an exciting read. Whilst you are not aware that the actors are vampires, you get the feeling straight away that there is something supernatural about them and I did wonder whether Cody was a bit mad to confront them. This story grabs you and I found I could not put it down until I had finished it.
When the actors went full vampire, the scenes were graphic and descriptive and you could instantly tell that there would be few survivors, but at these times my heart was in my mouth as I wondered whether Cody would survive and if so, how he would get out of the mess he was in. It was made even more intense when you find out that a young boy was involved and he was in danger.
As it was set in the wild west, it seemed more exciting as there were no modern weaponry and transport to get them out of a fix. Trying to escape an evil entity just by an old horse seemed more exciting than jumping in a car. For some strange reason whilst I was reading this, I kept thinking of Red Dead Redemption as the descriptive scenes of the land reminded me of this game.
I am so glad that I have read this book and if you love horror, good vs evil and vampires to be vampires than this is a story for you. I am looking forward to reading more by this author

A great vampire story. Liked that it was a different take on vampires. Be aware, though, it's quite graphic.
