Warning!: There are sensitive themes in this book such as alcohol and drug abuse, loss of loved ones, divorce, and depression.

I have to start out by saying this book isn't for everyone. People usually hate it or love it. That being said, I love this book and have read it a total of 3 times. It is one of my favorite novels.

Theo, the narrator of the book, is only 13 years old when he loses his mother during a terrorist bombing attack at an art museum. From there, we follow him through the years to different places, such as the upper west side of New York, the outskirts of Las Vegas, and Amsterdam. This book is so atmospheric, and I felt like I was there with Theo throughout the entirety of the story and I could feel everything he was feeling. It was a very powerful read. One of my favorite themes in the story was friendship, specifically Theo and Boris's friendship. With every important friend he made, it just goes to show that family isn't just blood but people you can meet in the most unlikely of ways. I felt it made the book all the more special.

I highly recommend picking this book up. Don't let the length of it stop you. This is a book that everyone needs to read at least once in their lives.

Beautifully written. Tried to be a little too profound at times, but a good story with deeply developed characters.
