The Elric Brothers, Alphonse and Edward, are both alchemists. When they attempted to bring their mother back to life, Edward lost his leg and his arm and Alphonse lost his body entirely. Now, Alphonse's soul lives in a suit of armor, and Edward (an alchemist for the state) uses the name Fullmetal Alchemist. As they travel across the land to find a way to fix their bodies, they come across fake holy leaders, crooked politicians, alchemists who break alchemy laws, and a mysterious vigilante murderer.

The anime is a beloved favourite and I can't believe it's taken me this long to pick up the manga! The pacing in the manga is top notch, the comedy perfectly balanced with the action and questions as the world is unpeeled layer by layer. I can tell I'm going to be binge-reading this one.

OMGAWESOME. This was by far the best manga I've read yet; completely engaging and fun from page 1. Call me crazy, but so far it has that wonderful wandering Western feel, and I just love it. So why oh why will the library system not let me reserve manga? *needs more NOW*
