This was just too cringe for me. In the middle of a sex scene, Nya literally says "peach emoji" because she can't say the real word aloud. I had a hard time seeing any chemistry between the two characters. I did like watching the relationship between Johan and his younger brother evolve. This can be read as a standalone.

This book blew me away. So much more than just a romance. Incredible representation: Black, African, bisexual, non-binary... And more! The main characters were complex, believable, relatable in surprising ways, and didn't draw out the tension between them for sake of ***DRAMA!*** Incredible. (Epilogue was a bit of a letdown though... Just skip it.)

This was such a fun romance! I love Nya and Johan and I loved seeing their relationship develop. The third act conflict was particularly silly, but I still loved it.

*Squeals* I am so happy for Nya!!!! Seeing her growth in self confidence and spreading her wings has been a joy to read. Seeing her from ‘A Princess in Theory’ to now makes my heart burst with joy. The romance was sweet and the sex scenes were great! And I appreciate so much that this wasn’t a black women solves the white love interests issues and fixes him trope.

I love Alyssa Cole. 4.25 stars.

Y’all know those books where you smile as you open it because you’re so happy to be with the characters? This is one of those. Alyssa Cole writes such beautiful, complex, healthy romances. Johan and Nya support each other and challenge each other to be the best versions of themselves, and damn does Cole show how sexy consent is. I think Portia is my favorite female lead of this trilogy, but Johan is my favorite male lead ❤️

This is my first completed read for Romanceathon! This accomplished the challenge of reading your favorite trope - mine is fake dating!
