I've read quite a few mountaineering/climbing books, and this one is among my favorites. Mainly because of the humility and modesty expressed by the author that's rare in the genre. The writing is excellent and entertaining, descriptive and thought-provoking.

The Altitude Journals by David J. Mauro tells the author’s journey from hitting rock bottom to standing atop the seven highest mountains in the world. While the author’s tale had the potential to be yet another mid-life crisis story, it turned out to be anything but! In addition to giving a fascinating insight into the world of mountain climbing, Dave openly talks about how his experiences in the mountains affect his mental health and relationships. I found his story about loss, love, and healing truly inspiring. The book is extremely well-written, with an open and honest, and at times witty, narrative voice that entices the reader from page one. If you enjoy stories about human resilience, and are looking for a book that will make you think about life in a new way, this book is for you! It is not only an adventure story, it is a story about what makes life worth living. Highly recommended!

David J Mauro believes he has lost everything that matters to him. His brother has passed away, his marriage is in shambles and he has to move in with his sister. During this dark time in his life, his brother-in-law asks him to climb Mt. Denali. At this point, if he fell off the mountain, David believes no one would really care. Agreeing to the climb, David has no idea it is exactly what he needs. As he embarks on the climb, he will be forced to face his demons on the highest point in North America. This first climb will show him what it takes to move forward with his life. As he attempts each of the seven summits, he will learn valuable lessons and grow into his full potential.

Join David as he battles against subzero temperatures, dense jungles and so much more. You will not be able to put this book down!
