Riepilogo di un viaggio sconclusionato compiuto dall'autore in Afghanistan negli anni 80. Il maggior pregio é che l'autore stesso é cosciente di quanto fosse stato imbarazzante e non tralascia dettagli.

Vollmann displays a tremendous amount of empathy and self-awareness in An Afghanistan Picture Show. Informative, heartbreaking, and page-turning, even if you have political disagreement with Vollmann’s position (as I do) you will still be able to enjoy this text.

What I read of this book was interesting enough, but ultimately it failed to capture my interest. Vollmann basically provides the reader with a deluge of information, but without any line of thought, narrative, perspective, or argument to tie the information together, it felt rather aimless. And the prose was mostly uninteresting, which is odd given that Vollmann's writing is so hypnotic elsewhere.
