rach_eb's review against another edition

I was drawn to read this collection after reading about the life of its author, the fascinating lesbian icon Natalie Clifford Barney. The poems are good, but the context makes them even more interesting. Fair warning, as could possibly be guessed from the title, half of these poems are in French. I read all of the English poems, but only a few of the French ones, as my French is honestly not good enough to understand the nuance of poetry. My favorites of the English poems were "How to Write the Beat of Love", "A Pilgrimage", and "How Cold".
