Claimed by Sarah Fine is the second book of Servants of Fate series. Dr. Galena R. Margolis is traumatized after almost being killed the week before (also from a past brutal attack), but she is continuing with her research of a special vaccine (along with the help of her assistants Ankita and Jian). Galena is already doing human trials with five subjects. Galena’s vaccine is the only hope of stopping/conquering the plagues that are killing millions of people. Someone, though, is determined to stop Galena from creating the vaccine.

Galena needs to be kept safe and alive, but how can that goal be achieved. Declan Ferry has taken an interest in Galena. He would like to get to know her, but time is not on their side. Cacy Kerry (Declan’s sister) comes up with a plan but are Galena and Declan ready to pay the price? Galena is going to have to overcome her violent attack in order to keep herself safe and create the vaccine that is badly needed.

Someone is taking control of the Ker’s and making them go against the wishes of the Lord of Kere’s, Jason Moros. Who is behind these attacks? Aislin Ferry is now the Charon (as well as the head of the family company Psychopomps) and has a lot on her plate. She is trying to undo everything her wicked brother, Rylan did while in control as well as handle the attacks. Someone is trying to change the fabric of fate and everyone is going to have to work together to keep it from unraveling.

To understand Claimed you need to read the first book in the series, Marked. I give Claimed 4 out of 5 stars. Please be aware that the book has a rape scene (Galena’s attack was mentioned in Marked and described in more detail in Claimed) and two sex scenes. I give Claimed 4 out of 5 stars. I liked the story but not as well as Marked. This book read more like a romance novel and did not have the intensity of Marked.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Although i really did enjoy this book... it seemed to drag.... Dont get me wrong i feel for Galena and what she went through and the understanding Dec has is incredible... but as a reader the "Claiming" felt too dragged out and did take over alot of the story, and discussions with her brother felt icky......

Also Near the end where characters where popping up here there and everywhere was getting a bit annoying.

Now i loved Jason and the ice queen sister i am looking forward to book 3, the narrator on the Audio is brilliant, and the world building is great enticing you enough with Greek mythology but Author puts her own spin on things.

First of all my apologies to Ms. Fine in taking too much time to read this book. I should have and wanted to read it about a month ago. Slap my wrist peeps. Moving on now to the actual review.

Although this is the second book that I have read by this author. Ms. Fine as done a superb job. 4 "luck has nothing to do with it" Stars.

I loved Dec he was as solid as a rock.

I had a major problem with Galena whereas I appreciated that she had character development the beginning was difficult as I felt at every turn she was throwing a pity party for herself. I won't be giving much a way. Just read it.

The one thing that did stick out like a sore thumb was that when Galena went into the police station she was wearing a maxidress and a cardigan and then suddenly at the cabin after they went through the veil, Galena was wearing a pink satin blouse and a black pencil skirt.

Thank you to Netgalley for gifting this book to me in exchange for a honest review.

I didn't love the premise for the romance at the beginning -- too gothic Harlequin for me -- but it was handled well, and I liked the book better as it went along.

Galena Margolis, sister to Eli from book one, and super scientist extraordinaire on the brink of saving humanity is in danger from all those who would stop her progress. Declan Ferry is determined to protect her at all costs, even when those "costs" come with a very surprising package deal.

This was a great follow up to Marked and equal in awesomeness in every way. Both main characters had depth, the secondary characters have lots going on to keep you occupied, and the ongoing storyline involving the out of control Kere is evolving nicely book by book.

I really enjoyed how Dec was with Galena, whom, as you'll know if you read book one, had been viciously attacked in the past and is still tying to come to terms with it every day. Their romance is in some ways hindered by this, but in other ways, it simply made it more poignant and deep.

There were perhaps even more twists, turns and shocks in this instalment, and who doesn't love a book that keeps you on your reading toes? I was more than intrigued by the epilogue and the prospect of the next potential coupling. Especially since it's a pair of characters the author hasn't particularly endeared us to thus far. Can't wait to read on to find out if I'm right!

4 Stars ★★★★ A copy of this book was provided by the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

Claimed by Sarah Fine is book two in the Servants of Fate series. I decided to read this one back to back with book one (Marked) and I have to admit, between the two books, I liked Marked more but overall as a series, I found myself pulled in and really enjoyed it.

Very quickly, Marked was Cacia’s story and that book has a lot of the backstory you will need before diving into this book so definitely read Marked before Claimed or you will be a bit lost. In Marked, we learn that Cacia is a Ferry…both in name and occupation (she is also a paramedic). As a Ferry, she is tasked with guiding those souls that have passed on to their final destination. She (and her brothers and sister) work closely with the Ker’s to keep the balance and follow through on what Fate has determined for humanity. Eli is Cacia’s new paramedic partner and he has a secret of his own that leads these characters through to the end of book one. Since this isn’t necessarily a review for that book, I have glossed over a lot.

Moving into Claimed, the story is more focused on Eli’s sister Galena and Cacia’s brother Declan. Galena has a fairly tragic story and while a good bit of it is revealed in Marked, we learn more about what really happened and the effect it had on both Galena and Eli. Since Galena’s research to find a vaccine for the human plagues has a direct impact on the Fates and the paranormal world, she is a target for those that don’t want her to succeed. Also, now that Eli is a Kere and working for Moros, Galena is pulled into danger.

As Galena and her test subjects become targets for those trying to stop her, the only answer that the Ferry’s can come up with to protect her is that Galena needs to marry into the Ferry family …and not only marry but become claimed and really, truly a Ferry. Not only would it mark her as part of the family and therefore, not someone who can be marked, but it also would make her indestructible in the human world and therefore, offer her a bit of protection.

At the beginning of the story, it is clear there are some feelings between Declan and Galena and I thought Fine did a great job of showing how the trauma Galena experienced funneled over not only into her professional life, but also the relationships she had with those around her. She did her best to power through with Declan but I loved that he forced her to stop and take a step back to consider what he was going through having to get her out of her head the first time they tried to be together.

As characters go, I liked Galena. I don’t know that anything about her really stood out for me. She clearly loves her work and has fallen back on that and Eli as the things that continue to push her forward. I am fairly positive that if she didn’t have one of both of those things in her life she would have given up after her attack. I did like Declan. He is tough but caring and truly loves his family. He was also very patient with Galena and learned quickly what he needed to do to protect her and ultimately gain her trust.

The overall story of who is behind the rogue markings and attacks on Galena and her research is interesting. I’m looking forward to learning more about Moros’ sisters and what will happen in book three. I thought the world building and the character development were done well. If you are looking for an interesting take on paranormal with an urban fantasy feel, definitely check this series out. Fine does a wonderful job of creating her characters and developing / moving the story forward. I will definitely be reading the next book of this series when it comes out.

Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for the review copy.
