Solid memoir. The writing was decent.
I like how open it is - the writer recognises their own mistakes, as well as those of the people around them, and doesn’t try and sugar coat them. As it is a memoir, there were some parts where it felt like things were skipped over, but it is a memoir and as those things weren’t the focus of the book it makes sense they wouldn’t go into detail about them.
All in all, solid book.

An incredibly moving account of growing up Queer and Muslims. Life as a Unicorn is a powerful recounting of trauma and rage, and the slow creeping towards healing. Emotional and astoundingly honest, I was so struck by Amrou's strength, spirit, and ability to find it within themslef to forgive. What an amazing soul.
