AHHHHHH. THAT ENDING!!!! ugh, i loved every second of this. 4.5 stars. i am a fan of zombie stuff but not always in the way that it tends to go. this was a great zombie story that told a lovely, contained story. it's set in a hospital as the realization dawns and then we follow a small group of staff and paitents as they fight for survival to leave the hospital. i love this author from everything that i've read of theirs so far, and this is a wonderful flex of her narrative muscles and a lot different from what i've seen from her before. as usual though, there is a lot of casual queerness peppered throughout the cast of characters, with the focus being on a sapphic relationship. here, that's between a nurse and a doctor who had a burgeoning relationship that went a bit sour before the story begins, which really helps the romance stuff that we get, since it's more of a coming back together story, than a get together in the middle of an apocalypse, one. that said, this is def a horror ensemble story first, and a sapphic romance second, and it's good to know that going in if you're picking it up for G. Benson's usual romance focus. i loved it. i'm still reeling from the ending, and i can't wait for this to become a regualr October/horror re-read for me.
