Read this for a book club. Maybe my first ever self-help book. Turns out... I’m a bit of a perfectionist. Learned a lot about why I think and feel the way I do in situations, and even if I never use any of the suggestions for changing that, how it is explained has definitely shifted my mindset already. That said, I like some of the solutions offered and plan to try implementing some of these based on the suggestion application plan.

As someone who struggles with the very ideas this book seeks to help with, I cannot recommend it enough. Guise does an amazing job of simplifying down the process of removing yourself from perfectionism and gives many helpful examples. I was suprised as to how many great points Guise made which very quickly allowed me to rethink my process; there is a little bit of free therapy in each chapter.

I agree with other reviewers that the tone is a little "corny" but personally I find it charming and prevents the book from feeling like a case study into psychology. Moreover, Guise does state his opinion a lot, however, whilst also being informed via serval studies he sites, I do not think much of the work needs to be heavily based on cold, hard evidence. This is mainly because it is hard to quantify these ideas in the first place. Fundamentally it is quite qualitative, and the things that Guise talks about are very actionable despite this.

All in all, I really enjoyed this book and will be keeping it close by for future reference. Easily one of the best self-help books I have ready, if not one of the best non-fiction books.

Some good practical ideas in here for understanding how perfectionist standards might be holding one back. The book offers a few methods for replacing perfectionist goals with new ways of thinking about failure, standards, and progress.

The author's tone is a little bit corny, but the book I think does still provide some value for people who may have perfectionist standards. It's certainly worth the read.

I have been a recovering perfectionist for awhile now and can really see how this can help with that. I recommended it to several people before I even finished reading it.

Good but not great. IMO, his later book Mini Habits for Weight Loss is better written with better content. This book was full of examples of asking girls out. It became really difficult to complete it at one point of time.
