British monarchy and American neoliberalism apologia served on a largely cringe-worthy, sometimes kind of endearing, gay romantic story. Alex is a grating asshole. Henry is a white boy.

Sickeningly cheesy and gave huge fanfic vibes (both in implausible plot and in the quality of writing) but I ain’t no snob and I did read this cover to cover in one weekend so can’t shit on it too hard.

To be honest I found three quarters of the book really boring and disappointing.

Loved, loved, loved this book. It getting a lot of hype, and it stands firm despite it. The story itself is lovely, but I think the narration is next to unique. There are times when the narrator and I are both yelling at Alex, and there are times when he are both aching for him.

I have to disagree with the reviewers saying the politics are too much or she didn’t handle them well. The main characters are the FSOTUS and the Prince of England… there’s clearly going to be politics involved. Also this book is very obviously a progressive book, so don’t read it if that’s not your thing. And I didn’t think there was too much political talk. After all, like I said before, he’s the FLOTUS so what else would he do? I think the author has a way of tastefully adding in references that are more for historical context than political. And yes, maybe the book try’s to tackles huge issues in a fairytale way, but that’s why it’s fiction.

In saying that, the only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5: I wanted to book to break me more. Sounds weird, but I definitely would have ended it completely differently. The books instead fills you with hope, which I love— and the author says is her intention in the acknowledgments— I just felt it was a little to dreamy.

This book made me so genuinely upset that we don’t have a young, hot FSOTUS to gossip about.

TL;DR: read this book!!! at least give it a chance.

I’m not even gonna lie to y’all, I was in such a reading slump while reading this book, which is why it took me so long to read it. Overall, I enjoyed this book and I thought it was cute & fluffy. I gave it 4 stars because I’m not a fan of 3rd person or long chapters which this book has both lol. I can’t wait to watch the movie now!!

who doesn’t love enemies to lovers? Had this world mentioned Princess Diana it would’ve been a favorite. I had fun but I just felt something was missing. can’t wait for the adaptation.

2,5 ★ c’était mignon, j’étais hyper attachée à leur histoire au début mais qu’est ce que c’était longggg… des longueurs tout le temps, bcp trop de politique (un peu propagande usa?) bref je me suis forcée à finir, trop dommage
