This is my first Iowa Review to read cover-to-cover, and it was pretty good. Outstanding pieces by Ayse Papatya Bucak, Elizabeth Cullen Dunn, and Eleanor Stanford. But the art was just terrible. The culinary topics the photobashed images tried to delve into were interesting, but really did no good at all. Wow. For being a food-themed issue, I didn't find a lot of poetry or fiction to be especially food-related. And the editor's note seemed a bit unaware of food literature. Food writing is never necessarily about consumerism. Sorry you think that.
