Intellectual poems. I had a hard time understanding -- it took me a while as I was googling in between poems, trying to understand Aimé Césaire and his poems, the words, and even wanted to translate some of the French poems into English as well just to see the differences between translator and my own interpretation. I guess my "favorite" section would be "i, laminraia" as those poems chronicle an event, and it was easier to understand, follow; the rhythm was bouncy, though not always happy or joyous. Much of the poems feel violent -- like they would be spat out at an open mic event to depict the anger Césaire might want to convey to us.

I'm going to have to revisit in a few years when I have a better understanding of Césaire and have more time to dive deeper.
