Such a cosy, cute queer Christmas romance. Got me reflecting on failure, love, connection, sexuality and the meaning of family. I was rooting for the characters and saw myself in them as well. Would read again!

Tropes/Themes:
-FF holiday romance
-One night stand leading to second chance a year later
-Marriage of convenience (FMC is fake engaged to the other FMC’s brother)
-Opposites attract
-LGBTQIA+ rep
-Low steam
-Standalone

Eh…this was a little too instalusty for my taste. I always find it weird when a character becomes so infatuated with someone after a one night stand and then are still hung up on them a year later. It just doesn’t feel authentic. But the writing was decent and it delivered on the holiday vibes.

Story: 3/5
Audiobook: 3/5 (narrated by Natalie Naudus)
Length 10h38min

The dynamic between friends in this book was one I really loved. I always love good friendships in books, especially romance. The love between Elle and Jack felt good, it was fiery but also not too unrealistic. The inevitable miscommunication and conflict actually wasn’t that bad. Typically when reading romance I’m always rolling my eyes when the couple reaches this point, but I felt for jack and I felt for Elle as well in this situation. The one scene that bothered me was the mistletoe scene. There is no way you should be kissing the sister of your fiancé even if it’s a fake fiancé, jack and most of her family didn’t know that…..weird. I also found it a bit strange that the entire Kim-Prescott family was hanging out with Elle still after only knowing her for a couple weeks. Overall a story and characters that I really enjoyed!! I loved the sub plot of Elle’s web comic and the way that element was used to tell the story of Elle and Jacks first day together. I really enjoyed and related to Elle’s character in general and her anxiety induced GI issues lol.
