This is a fast paced, action packed, complex spy thriller. I think I may have fared better with it if I'd read the previous books in this series. The dialogue is sometimes confusing, being almost a stream of conciousness and it's not always clear who is talking. I'm sure it was written this way to add to the pacing and to keep the reader off balance, but the further I got into the book the more irritating I found it. After reading the blurb on the back cover I had been really looking forward to reading this, it could have been a great story of post 9/11 paranoia within the security services, but I was disappointed with the disjointed style and the rather rushed ending.
As I said I may have enjoyed it more if I'd read the other books but in my opinion this was a day too far for the Condor.

I was sent a copy of this novel to review by real readers. Unfortunately with not reading the earlier books I had to put it down unfinished. Some books you don't need to read in order but I think in this case you do.

I'm not really sure what I was expecting from this novel but I know it did not meet my expectations. I had a lot of nostalgia from reading the initial novel of this series back in the '70's and was hoping to be wowed again. This story seems really muddles and was actually somewhat disappointing.

3 stars for the nostalgia of remembered characters but that is about it.

Day ninety billion of this appalling heatwave and I should have written these reviews ages ago but my brain is full of boiling meat-juices now so this is the best I can do. Old spy new licks hah still got it. Condor, haunted and possibly driven mad by having Robert Redford play him in the film of his first book is living with a bunch of medication being monitored by spies but one of the spies is murdered and he goes on the run and so does the other spy and as tradition demands they break into a woman home and use her house as a shelter and she comes round to seeing how sexy this is eventually. There are shootouts and stuff. Good. I like it fine.
