This is a gritty, dark and intelligent commentary on the political systems, corruption and class divides in India. It illustrates the ugliness, poverty and struggle that the poor in India must endure, and I found it fascinating. Our protagonist was very complex and I felt like I really knew him. He wasn't likeable, but I think this added to the story - I don't think it would have had the same effect if he was portrayed as a hero (it would have taken away from the gritiness of the whole story in my opinion). I found the story itself really interesting too and did not want to put this down.
