Charming, but so like all the others that are sort of adult. That's not bad, and I'm happy to have read them, but it's very hard to remember which one is which!

All the good (gorgeous writing, great romance, tortured misunderstandings) and bad (naive manic pixie dream girl lead, paternalistic older love interest, evil scheming woman antagonist) elements that make up every Eva Ibbotson historical romance. The good definitively outweighs the bad for me.

I bought this for Mckenna isn't exactly for Mckenna's age yet...It was interesting to say the least.

I simply love Ibbotson's novels. I really liked the concept and the depth, and of course the romance and problems are fun to read and stress about. I loved the descriptive language... It really made the book funner to read because I had to delve deeper to understand. Plus, I love the cover :)

it was boring but there were some gems in there so the writing wasn't bad everything was just overly drawn out to be rather honest. the plot wasn't bad, the writing wasn't bad' the execution however was simply off

I think this is going to be my favourite Eva Ibbotson. It was always going to be a strong contender because ballet, but that plus the Amazon plus a properly swooney romance? Ding ding ding we have a winner! I adore Harriet, and I'm a little bit in love with Rom. I honestly wanted to cover my eyes at some parts though - Harriet's family are THE WORST!
I love the epilogue, bless Eva for writing it - whenever a book is set just before WWI it makes me anxious. I can't turn off the little part of my brain that whispers 'all the men will be dead in a few years'! So I was extremely grateful to find out whether I was right or not!

rereading all of these has been the most magical escape into worlds described so beautifully I cannot help but want to move across the world. I love this book so much. 😍
