This book was a struggle to get through. I get that she was supposed to be some level of insufferable but honestly it was a bit much. There was no depth to the supporting characters (other than Emma). Just wasn't for me I guess.

What a fun take on Pride and Prejudice. This book provides a completely new and original feeling story built off the tropes and plot elements of the original Jane Austen work. I did have problems with Trisha's attitude at certain points in the book, however as the "Darcy" character that is too be expected to a point. Overall this was a really great read and I can't wait to make it through the other books.

This book does have a lot of heavy content. DJ's sister is dealing with a cancer prognosis that will leave her changed forever, even if she does survive it. Trisha feels abandoned by her family after a toxic friendship led to her brother being put in an awful situation (

Her friend get's close to the brother, eventually drugging him, raping him, and filming it to try and get closer to him via eliminating his girlfriend

. DJ and his sister both encounter the same toxic friend that Trisha had previous experience with, leading to discussions of his rough childhood and raising his sister after both of his parents were out of the picture. Finally, Trisha's sister, after a long standing battle with infantility and miscarriages is finally pregnant, but the high risk leads to a tense situation.

Fun retelling of Pride and Prejudice set in modern times, with the genders switched. The love birds are a guy and a girl, and the girl is the Darcy character this time (even though the guy is named Darcy, fooled ya!). She is the rich one with painful social skills and too much pride while he is the one from a working class background and prejudice against her because she's rich. The author does a good job of translating the plot to modern problems that convey just how life-ruining things could be. And it's very fun to have the story with an almost entirely POC cast of characters. Lots of fan service: some key scenes can almost be mapped directly, at least to the 2005 movie 😁. Definitely recommend to anyone looking for an easy but smart story. Check the content warnings though.

While it was slow for me to get into, once I got about 1/4 of the way through I couldn't put it down. Such a great take on Pride and Prejudice! Loved the role reversal and the independent woman. So many different life issues compiled into a beautifully woven story. I loved/hated the main character, but I think we were meant to! Very impressed!

I didn’t fully realize this was a genderbent Pride and prejudice until about 1/4 of the way into the novel. It didn’t stop me from reading though, a pleasant surprise. I loved learning about some of the intricacies of the Indian culture and the food! Although I do wish this wasn’t marked solely as a romance novel. Wickham does make a genderbent appearance and it involves the MC’s older brother & metoo movement. Some of the other topics are also heavy in theme and take over the romance aspect. I would check trigger warnings. It’s slow to start but enjoyable once you get used to the cast of characters involved.
