Having only a tiny amount of knowledge of another language myself (school French) I can totally understand the difficulties in conversing with someone who doesn't speak English.

In this short story we meet Robert. He is driving to Mexico to see the whale migration when his car breaks down. He is forced to stop in a small town and seek assistance.

He finds somewhere to stay and goes to find somewhere to eat. He comes upon a small restaurant. Inside he finds a young waitress, Maria, dancing and singing away to the jukebox.

What follows is both lovely and hilarious at the same time. It reminds me so much of the characters Jamie and Aurélia in Love Actually.

Again the author has written a short story which leaves so many unanswered questions. The very first line in the story suggests either a long held memory of lost love, or a first memory in an amazing love story. The reader is left wondering which it may be. I know which one I imagine! But you can make your own mind up.
