I found the writing style to be somewhat boring and simplistic. The voice of his book just wasn’t appealing to me despite enjoying some of the stories within about Bill and Red.

I picked this up just to learn more about my Celtics. Great book about friendship and the art of really listening to the needs of others. Love the little tidbits and learned how great Red really was as a coach and as man.

“No one is completely consistent—we’re all human beings with the same basic flaws. But the world changes, and you can’t stay the same when things change around you. At some point, you have to engage yourself in the process, learn what it’s about, and evolve with the changes. You expect others you respect to do the same.”

“Some people think that friends need to be equals in everything—in other words what I get from you must be equal to what you get from me. That is not necessarily so. What you need that I can provide, and what I need that you can provide, may be very different. Friendship depends on what you give to each other, not on what you receive.”

I'm not really a sports person, but I am a mythology fan and the Boston Celtics, especially in this era, seem mythological to me.  I really liked Russell and having read this, my admiration for him has grown.  Learned some things I didn't know before (or I forgot I knew).

Easy read, touching. Nothing too earth-shattering.

A wonderful tribute to a lifelong friendship between one of the most famous coaches of all time (Red Auerbach) and basketball legend named Bill Russell.

I learned a lot from this book, not only about the friendship between Red and Bill, but friendship in general.
