As disappointed as I am to not have a continuation of Kvothe’s story, this was lovely and insightful and had a gorgeous prose.

This was good. I enjoyed the view into Auri’s world. I wish Patrick Rothfuss weren’t the antagonist of his world.

It’s true that this is just around 147 pages of a girl moving objects around in her underground home. However, it is written so well that the complete and utter lack of plot is easy to overlook. A bit like Neil Gaiman’s Neverwhere but sort of more lonely and high fantasy-esque

The illustrations lifted it to a 2* for me. It’s probably a 1.5. Nothing happens in the book.

As Pat himself warned, this is a very different sort of story. It is a departure from the adventure and voice which we got from his other Kingkiller stories. This is something altogether new and unique and beautiful.

As usual, the prose is just lovely. But even more so here than in Pat's other books. Here, he digs in and waxes poetic while being totally true to the voice of the character in his narration. The book almost reads like a lengthy poem in that respect.

This is a very close character story. With Kvothe's tales we had his personality shining through the storytelling, but here I almost felt like I got to be Auri for a little while. It was lovely.

This isn't a story-heavy book. It doesn't give us any critical new details about Kvothe or his adventures. Instead, this book was an hour and a half of placidity and beauty. I really enjoyed it.
