I'm amazed that I've never read anything by Nick Hornby before. I really really liked this book - he is tremendously funny while at the same time making some quite significant points. I've now ordered a number of the books he talks about, plus one of his novels.

The Complete Polysyllabic Spree is a delight for any reader---a treasure trove and a spoiler minefield for to-be-read piles! It is witty, easy-to-read and definitely relatable. Especially the fact about buying books faster than you can read them. I completely agree with Hornby that it is not just hoarding and the intention is more important---we do intend to read all of them, we just have not been able to get to it yet. Many of the pieces are also accompanied by little extracts from the books being written about, giving you a little taste, a slight tease. A little something to mull on as you add yet another set to your ever-increasing To-Be-Read pile!

An interesting book. It's a shame I couldn't finish reading it and that now my copy is thousands of km away. I will get a new copy and read it. :)

Aside from being very funny and entertaining, Nick Hornby provided me with so many books I'd like to read that I fear I've lost all hope for reading all the great books out there. There's just too many.
I've also learned a very important lesson from N. Hornby (or the Spree by extension): If you find yourself unable to read a book because whenever you try to, it ends up making you cry hysterically because of how awful you find it, just stop. It's not worth it.
