I was looking for a fun and chill recount of a major league career, and I got that. I wasn't looking for dirt, or he said, she said. Wasn't looking for amazing feats of strength or excruciating detail of the steroid use. This book fit all that. It is jovial, interesting, the right amount of pomp, and the right amount of dazed and confused. Good read.

The nostalgia had me in tears several times. Loved the honesty and true feeling throughout the book. Had to give five stars to honor such a true, passionate Bostonian who brought nothing but light and laughter to the best place on earth.

I love the Red Sox and I love David Ortiz, but I didn't love the book. Understandably, covering a 20 year career is a lot, but I felt like there were many things that were glossed over. I was shocked at the bitterness displayed in the book, but that's his truth. I just wish we could have seen more of his jovial side throughout.

I thought it was ironic that in describing the difference between his life in the DR and his life in the United States he said, "I knew I wasn't going to get shot playing baseball." Not three years after retiring he was shot in the DR.

My favorite quote from the book is regarding the 2004 post-season: "The only person who said that [the Red Sox were going to come back] was my friend Kevin Millar, but of course *he* would say that - Millar doesn't have a brain."

I always love reading these kinds of books. I loved Ortiz's first book, and I loved this one just as much. [b:Papi: My Story|30971727|Papi My Story|David Ortiz|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1488552385s/30971727.jpg|51589470] is an honest, personal, no filter book about his early career and last few seasons in Boston. In this book, Ortiz doesn't hold anything back and offers glimpses into his life outside of baseball. He goes into detail about how he felt during and after the 2012 season, talks about his relationship with Bobby Valentine, how he felt winning the World Series in 2013 and the infamous "This is our f****** city" speech.
