Very disappointing. I read this because I like the author’s V.I. Warshawski mysteries. Felt like being in a blender unable to find my direction.

Though a very different novel then her V.I. books which I like, this is one of my favorites by Paretsky.

Amazing. As timely today as when it was published 17 years ago.

A bit slow-paced in the middle but really came together in the last 8-10 chapters.

I think I just like her V.I. Warshawski books better. I like the sass.

harder to read than the VI Warshawski series, but it provided some thoughtful material on homeless people

Choppy, repetitive, cartoon villains, Mary Sue heroines...this is a book barely saved by its detailed Chicago setting. The Kindle edition also has a LOT of typos.

At first I didn't think this was going to be my type of book, but I am surprised to say that as the story went it drew me in. Very enjoyable read indeed.
