For an anthology premised on mer-people, this collection of short stories showed initial promise as it strived to rise beyond the usual dour warnings of horrors from the sea.
All that changed towards the middle and the most delightful highlight for me was 'Oversplash' with a snarky angel assigned to rein in a rogue mermaid with some extraordinary powers. Coming in a close second was 'Tentacles', proving that clever plot twists can work wonders to provide an entertaining read.
The other stories are a mixed bag but are generally well-written. While I would have liked for the more engaging pieces to have been presented earlier, the order makes sense in hindsight - with each story kind of building off each other.
