Very sweet middle grade story about pacy and her year at school. It starts off with the lunar new year and entering the year of the dog which is meant to bring luck. I loved the diversity in this book, including the mums stories about her childhood in Taiwan. It was also an important message about why diversity in books and films is important

My students wanted to rate it 4 stars, but I insisted on 3.

My six year old daughter and I both read this book. It is a very good look at Asian culture, and it's an important book to my daughter who is half-Chinese and looking to understand more about that side of her. The book deals with many things in Chinese culture including the foods they eat, Chinese New Year traditions (obviously), and celebrations done for the birth of a baby. Pacy/Grace (the main character) struggles with her own identity issues as a young Taiwanese-American in a mostly Caucasian school, as well as dealing with the typical school and social issues of an elementary school student. The book was easy to read, relevant to children's lives, and fun to read.
