This book had me hooked. I binged the first 6 hours of the audiobook while on a roadtrip. It’s funny, kind of gross and full of so much heart. There were so many parallels; the rage Rory had from her childhood trauma and the rage she felt as the wolf, losing control of her body/life the same way her twin felt being pregnant. I wasn’t expecting a romance (it’s definitely a subplot, there is an HEA but I would not categorize this as a romance) but enjoyed it all the same! I definitely recommend listening to this on audio if you can the narrator did an amazing job!

Rory is driving to stay with her pregnant sister when she is bitten by a werewolf, and everything starts to change.

This is a story of female rage, told through the Rory's transformation into a werewolf. We see her relationship with her body as it starts to become less and less her own, and how it mirrors the experience of her pregnant sister. This book is funny, angry and emotional. It dives into complex family relationships, trauma and forgiveness, with a side of gore.

Although I ended up loving this and staying up until 3am to finish it, it did take a while to get going initially. The first chunk reads a little just contemporary fiction before any of the horror kicks in, which isn't a bad thing, but does mean it took me a little longer to get into. I would have liked maybe a little more of the horror elements, although I did really like the direction the plot went and wouldn't want this to be different.

There's also a heavy romance plot through the story which I actually quite liked. I'm not usually into romance in books and I tend to be quite fussy about it, but this was genuinely quite sweet and even added some level of tension to the story.

Overall a really great read, and I'm looking forward to continuing working through Rachel Harrison's backlist

I’m not normally a horror person, but I’ve been trying to diversify my genres. I’m glad I picked this one. It was so good!

One of the characters was so annoying to me. I just wanted to shake them by the shoulders 😅 I couldn’t tell if they were being nonchalant and didn’t care or were trying to be spiteful.

The descriptions were very well-written. The dialogue was cheeky and witty without being corny. Rory was written like a ~real~ person. With flaws but also redeeming qualities. She didn’t feel superficial at all.

Just overall a great book!

Perfect balance of horror, comedy, and romance. I have never had a book make me cry, laugh, and gasp all in just a few chapters. Truly such a good, fun, and scary read.

This is like a really good fan fiction to me. A complete fan fiction, so I kept going on with it. The characters could do with more fleshing out. Rory's trauma was just kinda thrown in. If that was even going to be an issue, it could have been added with a bit more finesse. I liked this book, but it just could have been more.
