First half was good but then petered out. While I love Faulkner, a murder mystery isn't something that he's good at writing. Would have loved to see more of Miss Habersham and of Lucas (I've been told to read Go Down Moses next for more of him).

A bit too long for the story being told, Faulkner rambles and repeats and the accused keeping pertinent information from those meant to help him makes no sense. The crime and coverup is convoluted. Some of the prose is interesting to read, though I didn't like that some characters have the same style as the narrator when speaking. Some descriptions of mob mentality are worthwhile, but overall just okay and not memorable.
