choppy, disorganized and missing MASSIVE chunks of the story as we already know it from the outside.

the publishers preface the book by stating its a first draft and it certainly lives up — rather down — to that claim. it’s a shame Assange pulled out and the book couldn’t be properly written and edited. this definitely had the potential to be a great memoir. instead it’s a half-written letdown.

I quite like bios, though not of the z-lister kind, and I'd expected to be slightly wowed and in awe of Assange but I fear my opinion of him may have been hugely influenced by the media. Well yeah, I didn't enjoy it. Will stick to my regular bios in future.

Assange says he and his WikiLeaks colleagues had “the will to disempower”. He also had plenty of the will to empower himself. Of his first computer programs, he says “that kind of deep power is at very least thrilling, and, at most, revolutionary”. Self-righteousness and power are a dangerous combination and Assange has plenty of space to condemn himself out of his own mouth. As one example, having put a PDF of a book online without the author’s agreement, he’s outraged by her “sense of copyright” and justifies his means by his ends.

it was okay. he's definitely not the best writer in the world - too many tangents and too much defensiveness. but it was interesting.
