Sharif Kanaana is an anthropologist and this book is comprised of his works of research about the vast and misunderstood topic of Palestinian expulsion before, during and after 1948 (with emphasis being on the 1948 Arab-Israeli war). The book consists of his separately written papers about the Palestinian diaspora, and due to this there is some overlap of information in the chapters as the chapters were written as independent entities.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone interested in this topic due to Kanaana's addition of countless references from many previous works about what really happened in 1948 war and his interpretation of the facts presented in those works. Sometimes we find his analysis of the interpretation of those same facts done by the original authors of those works and that becomes an interesting comparison about narrative and personal interests in researchers' expositions.

Kanaana has used the works of Childers, Khalidi, Beni Morris, Tom Segev, Masalha, Goldhagen and many more to prove his many hypotheses and interpretations about a complex topic and in my opinion its a perfect book to start off your study about the Nakba.

It has only 213 pages so it's win-win situation, you learn alot about the Nakba in a short time.
