This novel is based on some really fascinating history. If you liked this, definitely check out some of the nonfiction books about Hannie Schaft and the Oversteegen sisters!

I had a hard time starting out with this one, not because it was bad but because of the subject matter. For those who are wondering, a mild spoiler: the ending is not as dark as it could be. It's not one of those stories.
There is as happy an ending as I think you could have in those times.
It was a tough story, but a well told one.
