Meh. The only story I liked from this was Wilkie Collins' story about the candlestick. The others were pretty forgettable.

What a beautifully sad book about how being human sometimes brings memories and burdens that cannot be forgotten or laid down. I am such a huge fan of Dickens and the way he saw the world. I will be picking this one up again in Christmases future. The only chapter I would have some harsh words for is Dickens’ story about a group of children setting up a “harem.” Yes, it was as uncomfortable as it sounds. But the last story, in particular, really got to the core of human nature—both for good and evil, hopeful and disappointing.

This was a collection of short stories by Charles Dickens and other authors. I loved how there was one theme which was ghosts and haunted houses! Perfect read to prepare for Halloween! However it’s important to note that I didn’t really know what was happening majority of the time. I was almost just reading words but not grasping the stories being told.

Wth?

In every edition I've found, only the first and second chapter are included, and I'm pretty certain from reading the comments that there are supposed to be other chapters by other authors. I'm not going to rate this until I find the complete story and can finish THAT.

A fascinating little collection of stories bourne out of Dickens letting what was alleged to be a haunted house and having his friends come stay in it with him. He proposed that they all write a story while in the house, and this little book was the result. I enjoyed Adelaide Anne Procters long poem the best. This would be a great read for anyone looking for a halloween spirit.
