Uhg. I'm not ready to give up on this series, but it definitely wasn't the best Cat Royal novel I've ever read.

Seeming to be the finale of the series, this book provided a good rounding off point for Cat, with her not only finding her blood family but also realising that her friends are always going to be her family too. Seeing her embrace those connections and also look forward to her future in a more mature way than she had done before was refreshing for the audience. This was perhaps made possible by the introduction of Bridget. Although other characters such as Sid and Frank are older than Cat, they often don’t act as such. Enabling Cat to build a friendship with someone who had experience of the world, especially as a woman, allowed her to grow, and allowed the reader to feel comfortable saying goodbye to her without wanting more adventures.
The historical setting was also interesting, touching outside of London again, this time in a Scottish mill. The discussion of historical life and hard-hitting subjects such as poverty and slavery felt more adult than they have done in previous books, as if maturing with the characters and readers.

Cat discovers her history and finds the brother she never knew she had. Many twist and turns that weren't expected! Julia Golding leaves rooms for another instalment in the adventures of an adventurious teen in an age that looked down on poor young women who's paratage wasn't what society wanted.

Currently my favorite Cat Royal book, in which Cat leaves for Scotland to find her family.

SO FRUSTURATING! I finally get this book in my hands and it didn't disappoint. This did not seem like a final book. I'm trying hard to believe that this is NOT the final book. I can't really review and give valuable information, but I thoroughly enjoyed it! The ending made me run around and laugh and slightly cry. Oh, family is more than blood! Frank and Cat all the way!!!

Please Julia, make another one!

Just sad that there's no more of Cat Royal's story left to read.

Either the series is getting worse or I'm getting tired of the characters. I've discovered over the years that it is very difficult for an author to maintain their momentum over the span of a series. With a few notable exceptions (I'm looking at you, J.k.!), I think most authors would be wise to stick to a trilogy. That seems to be the magic number that most good authors can achieve without burning out the reader.
