I’ve never been part of a church that forms a selection committee to call a new pastor, but I have friends who have been on committes, and the concept was not new to me. I truly enjoyed this book. It was a pretty slow read for me but I was definitely committed till the end. I really related with Dana - maybe to the point that it took me to the very end to recognize her flaws. I LOVED the concept of a memoir inside of a novel. I was personally disappointed with the committee’s outcome but could have followed these characters though another couple of committees - but that’s not how it works.

my fellow high school friend on the UU ministerial search committee & i would have killed jennie with hammers i can tell you that much

what an infuriating character (or rather caricature lol - as someone who was 17 on a MSC i'm like chomping at the bit to be like NOT ALL YOUNG PEOPLE), what a weirdly tragic book
