*2021 reread*

Well, this is it. My monthly Pendragon saga reread that I began in January finally reached its end.

For the most part my feelings have still carried over in this reread. It's an underwhelming finale. I really loved some parts, disliked most others. One of my complaints on this reread is that although I think it's very sweet and thoughtful of DJM to devote a few paragraphs summarizing past books events and bringing newcomers up to speed, I feel like it also kinda infantalizes the new readers and makes reading these parts very tedious for those of us who've been here for the start. Like it didn't bother me much on the original read but rereading them now, it's tough. Maybe letting people figure stuff out for themselves is good, they can work on it, and that way he could've ensured people picked up the previous Pendragon book when they wanted to understand something's context better. I have a lot other gripes about this finale and this book's premise as a whole but I'm not in the mood to go into it right now, maybe later or some other day I'll come back to it. One thing I know for certain is that TSOH is the book that's less enjoyable to reread and practically not worth to do it. I still love the parts where sexy Saint Dane shows up, and Nevva and Elli's reunion/drama. I still cried when Bobby meets his family again and reading “END OF JOURNAL #37. THE FINAL JOURNAL OF BOBBY PENDRAGON.” still made me so emotional. And that's where this book should have ended. But, to paraphrase Saint Dane, alas, it was not meant to be. Getting all the answers in one fell swoop was both relieving and tedious but I dig it. After all that though, this book goes downhill. At this point, I feel like headcanoning Raven Rise as the final book and this as a companion book that you can read, or not. That's how underwhelmed this book makes me. Either way, this book series is still my favorite and will always hold a special place in my heart. That's why this finale, that could have been so much more, hurt me a lot bc it's not.
