Loved the ace representation. One star off, because the character development, was too fast to be realistic.

Ace rep + MCs in their 30s + cabin on a lake!

Joy loves Malcolm. Malcolm likes Summer. Summer loves love. And Fox is Summer’s ex.

Joy has been in love with Malcolm for years. When Malcolm invites Joy for a long weekend getaway, she knows it’s her chance to finally tell him. But Malcolm throws a wrench in her plans when he tells her how much he likes Summer and that the weekend is for Summer.

Summer invites her best friend & ex, Fox, to keep Joy entertained while her and Malcolm hangout.

Read if you love…
✨grumpy (him) & sunshine (her)
💃🏻dancing in the kitchen
✨love triangle, adjacent
🌊weekend in a cabin on a lake
✨MCs in their 30s

To be honest, I have such mixed feelings about this one.

I loved so many things about it…
- the cabin & lake setting
- the dancing in the kitchen
- pretty much everything about Fox
- the ace rep and Joy explaining it
- the diverse rep with Joy & Malcolm being both Black and ace, and Joy’s anxiety

However, I struggled because Malcolm and Joy’s friendship was so incredibly toxic. Malcolm was controlling & manipulative, and just awful and infuriating. So it made it infuriating that Joy was so hung up on him. Their “we know each other so well / we’ve been best friends for so long” but the inability to communicate was so frustrating I wanted to DNF multiple times.

For me, Fox was the redemption and why I kept reading.

📍California
✨Representation: ace Black MCs; anxiety
‼️Content: anti-ace/aro; panic attacks; toxic friendship
