Gemixte gevoelens. 2,5 ⭐

I was a bit anxious starting this book hearing some many people absolutely loved it or absolutely hated it… I think I’ve fallen in the middle. I didn’t hate or absolutely love it. It is a pretty good good and I appreciated the world building a lot. I do feel it was pretty slow paced for the first 60% of the book and it honestly drove me mad. All the action would pushed into the very end and it honestly all seemed very rushed to me. I hope no one comes for me by saying this, but.. Poppy… she dove me absolutely insane about 80% of the book. Her inner monologue was a little too over the top. I’ve heard the second book is where it gets better so I will be giving it a chance. Either way for me personally I feel like this book just didn’t give me what I was expecting and needed.

Writing was okay, not a ton of world building, it takes most of the book to really get clued in to the "species", and the male lead has difficulty understanding consent. Making things sexual after Poppy says no to various acts and situations multiple times in the book while convincing her it's okay because he's decided she wants it even though she's conflicted. "I'm not sure" isn't consent and get off, stop definitely isn't consent.
