I really, really loved the first one in this series .
The sadder I was after reading this one. It was ok. It really was. But that's all it was. The characters, who had a lot of development in the first book, seemed to have frozen. They just stayed the same no matter what. also the story was ok.But it didn't grip me like "Blood Song" did. We saw more of teh world, but somehow it didn't really feel much different.

If this was the first book I've ever read by Anthony Ryan, I would have just rated it an mediocre debut, that one could read as a filler between great books. But as it is the sequel to that great book, it actually was the most disappointing book for me in 2014. My expectations haven't been met at all.
I'm really torn about book three - I hope it will be great again, but I fear it'll be like this.

I’m re-reading the Raven Shadow trilogy before I get into the Raven’s Blade duology.
I still love this book and Vaelin Al Sorna but I didn’t enjoy it as much as I did the first time. Still a solid 4.5

Sooo .. I’m disappointed .. What happend here? In the beginning I thought I liked the different and new POV’s, I thought I liked that Vaelin was going to return to the Realm.. But this was definitely not the case! Why would you throw away so a good story. I didn’t feel like it was the same story as Blood Song. The thing I hated the most is Vaelin didn’t even came close to the Vaelin in Blood Song. Which was the best part of Blood Song.. And now I don’t know if I even want to read Queen of Fire ..

The series continues at a similar pace to the first book. It's still a very good read. Now we follow the fates of 4 heroes and therefore those who, like me, were enamored with Vélin in the first part, may be slightly disappointed that now there is more space for the others and there is quite a little of Vélin here. And maybe not... Our familiar Vernier connects and the main parts. Again. We start with him again almost at the end of the story.
We still don't know much more about magical abilities, magic or who the evil in the shadows is. Even after 2 books.
Vélin now, as the Lord of the Northern Tower, doesn't discover anything very new that would move him forward.
Frentis' line, on the other hand, sheds a little light on the enemy's behavior, that so far we have only met the servants of that evil. Anyway, I have no idea how poor Frentis will turn out in the third book. I hope it's not too bad.
Lyrna. Hm, she didn't appeal to me much in the first book. I like her more in this second book. But she's still too "smart" to be believable. Anyway, her storyline is the most interesting so I kinda like her now.
Reva. A new character who is overly skilled in combat and combat strategy. In the short time which she spent with Vaelin, she could learn everything on similar level. Like what took him decades of his live. Hmm, well, definitely. I don't buy this.

At the end of the book, we have all our heroes in the same place and I'm looking forward to how their joint fight against evil will continue. I hope that this time Vaelin will have the most interesting storyline again and all our questions will finally be answered.
