I didn’t realise going into this that it was the first book in this series, well an extended version of a novella but nevertheless I loved being back with the Grey Family and seeing the Earl of Kent find his match in Emma!

I do love a historical romance and Katrina Kendrick is definitely a firm favourite now in that genre. They definitely pack a punch in less than 300 pages.

We get well written characters with depth and a storyline that doesn’t make you cringe or roll your eyes. I love that we got to see the characters from the other books in this one and Alexandra Grey the younger sister of the Earl is always going to be my favourite with her sassy tongue!

There was spice which I LOVED I mean it was HOT but no in your face. If you need to get your Bridgerton Fix on then I highly recommend this series. It isn’t all about the romance there is subplots running through each book that make it much more than just a historical romance.

As always please check trigger warnings.

I struggled with this one. This series has been very up and down for me; I have really loved some books in the series and have found others ho-hum. Unfortunately, this one was the least appealing of the entire series (to me). I didn’t connect with the the characters, and I found the pacing to be slow. It simply didn’t catch my interest. I kept trying, but I’d read a chapter and then go to a different book. I read multiple books in the time it took me to get through this one, so I know it wasn’t just that I wasn’t in the mood to read. This one just did not click with me.

Thanks to the publisher for providing an eARC via NetGalley.

I will always eat up the sex-in-a-mask hidden identity trope. Always. I love what Kendrick does with the "maybe you should be my mistress" trope - here, the FMC Emma assumes that's her only potential role even though that's not what the MMC James, Earl of Kent, is asking.

I have really enjoyed this series - and I kind of liked reading the prequel last (mostly because I know about Alex's story in book 2 and i love watching where she is in book .5!!)

I really liked this book a lot. I feel like their was so much excitement from start to finish & was not hard to immediately get into ! An I was honestly surprised to have such a big story fit in such a small amount of time ! I do wish there was a little bit more expansion on characters though. But I absolutely love the different point of view perspectives. This was a very well written historical romance but also had a modern vibe to it that it made it easy to put myself in the book ! This book absolutely will be among my favorites reads for 2023!

This book had a great premise and was enjoyable enough, but I found it lacking in many ways. It felt like more was happening behind the scenes than in the chapters; the main couple had an instant attraction that was very sudden, and though the sister was terrible and sent every other maid running, she had an instant friendship with Emma and seemed like a nice person. The plot also fell flat with little tension. That being said, it was a cute read. If you want a very simple book that you can read without thinking too much (perhaps as a pallete cleanser), then this book is for you. There is spice.

*thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for a copy in exchange for an honest review*

If you didn’t know, Katrina Kendrick is a pen name for Elizabeth May (my favourite author) for her historical spicy romances. I LOVE these books. This is my second book of hers, and while I loved A Bride By Morning more, this one is still SO good.

I loved the mysterious element of this one regarding Emma’s sister. The plot in this book (where it isn’t romance) is about finding out where her sister is, if she’s in danger, and if she’s dead. I loved how it was incorporated in the romance plot too.

Highly recommend if you’re looking for a spicy historical romance that also has a separate mysterious plot!!
