i picked that book up because of “TSG reads the world” challenge, and while some stories (I liked “and you know this” and “president daisy”) really touched me, i feel like the most of them weren’t my thing at all.

another one that my mum brought back for me. i simply am just in awe of the writing, and the way the stories had me hungry for more !

each story truly had me either laughing, in tears or complete shock. president daisy, art, for fucks sake, covenant are just amongst others that really stuck with me.
beautiful book!

"They don't like the sound of my voice," she says. "But come, let us sing, anyway."

This bizarre collection of short stories explores a number of themes (sexuality, identity, loyalty, abuse) through the eyes of unlikely protagonists. I am awed by how authentic and deliberate Leone Ross is with her writing of every single story. Reading this book was a jaw dropping experience and I had so much to think about after every story. Each story is uniquely written and is brutally honest in addressing very relevant themes but is also quirky and witty and captivating. I am still trying to wrap my head around the some of the stories I read in this book but overall I am certainly glad I read them all.

Captivating collection of short stories. Each so unique, and imaginative. Leone Ross' writing is sublime, making you feel all the emotions. Covering deep topics including abuse, racism, homophobia, sexuality and gender fluidity (to name a few!!) with grace, nuance and a fresh perspective. Many of the stories will stay with me for a long time including: 'Fix', 'Mudman', 'Breathing', 'Art for f**k's sake', 'Drag', 'Roll it'... wow.
