The Gospel of Bucky Dennis by James Parks, J.R. Parks

J.R. Parks really brings this trash-talking honky tonk badass Bucky Dennis to life in his debut novel. The main character Bucky is endearing, drops gut-busting one-liners throughout the story, and is exactly the tough guy you want on your side when faced with monsters and demons. Parks' monsters go from classic - the 8ft tall Wolf Man - to new incarnations of old favorites like the Cannibal Pygmy Shit-Fiend! This book is a rip-roaring good time. Absolute must read!

There was a lot to like about this book. Being a big fan of Bubba-Ho-Tep and all things Bruce Campbell, this pokes at a similar vein, throughout. At times, the style became garish but held true to the 'Southern Gothic' which the author provides his take on.

For fans looking for something fresh in the world of horror, luck to Bucky D.

Once I digest this a little more, I will post a review on my blog, typicallydia.com or nightface.ca
